This is contrary to what some of imagine: that ‘an Ethernet-driver is just an Ethernet driver.’ This approach often sees many people opt for the first Ethernet-driver they come across, imagining that there is no sense putting in much thought to their choice. Of course, like every other ‘freeware’ you do need to be sure of what ‘strings’ may be coming attached to your free Ethernet drivers. The important thing to keep in mind, though, is that such free Ethernet drivers exist. Closely related to this is the fact that the free Ethernet drivers aren’t necessarily inferior to the variety that you have to pay for. This is pretty much the same way as free (open source) software isn’t necessarily inferior to proprietary software. You can as well as get a great free Ethernet-driver, just as you can get a fantastic ‘paid for’ Ethernet driver.
