Design: The Samsung N110-12PBK is a 10.1 inch display netbook with a 6-cell battery. However, Samsung have made the battery smaller and more streamlined so that while the netbook measures 10.3 inches by 7.3 inches with a height of 1.2 inches it weighs a lot less at 2.8 pounds. Samsung have retained the more traditional tapered keyboard design but have made the keys bigger with the right Shift key just the right size. The touch pad has also been enlarged with a special scroll zone added. However, everything else has the ease of familiarity, from the glossy black surface to the matte black interior.
Specifications: The Samsung N110-12PBK is powered by an Intel Atom N270 processor running at 1.6GHz. With 1GB worth of 533MHz DDR2 RAM and a 160GB 5400rpm hard disk drive the netbook does not differ much in terms of components from other netbooks. Since it is also based on Intel’s Mobile 945GM Express chipset the GPU is also Intel’s GMA 950 integrated graphics. Thankfully, the netbook comes packing with three USB2.0 ports, a VGA port, an SD Card reader, audio jacks, an Ethernet LAN port, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
Features & Performance: Since the Samsung N110-12PBK’s components match most other netbooks you can expect it to handle office applications, Internet surfing and multimedia with ease. Using these capabilities the netbook can play HD movies (non-stop) for more than 6 hours which is quite energy intensive given that this uses almost all of the components. A less intensive task like surfing the web or writing a report continuously would result in even longer battery life.
Overall, the netbook looks great, weighs lighter, works just as well and lasts longer than most other netbooks of its class. While prices may vary between vendors, the Samsung N110-12PBK is a bit higher priced compared to other netbooks with similar components, however its lighter and more compact battery ensure that you get the same excellent performance in a more portable package.
