You’ll need to reboot your computer and run in safe mode with networking. In order to do this, as your computer is rebooting, repeatedly press F8.
Once you are finally booted up, you’ll need to navigate to Internet Explorer. This seems pretty straightforward except this infection changes the proxy setting of Internet explorer so opening a web page is prohibited. Make sure you follow these instructions:
Run Internet Explorer and click on “Tools-Internet Options”. Click on “Connections” tab page. Next, click on “LAN Settings”. Uncheck the check box which says “Use a Proxy Server for your LAN” and click OK.
At this point, you should be able to urf the net normally.
Press “CTRL-ALT-DEL” to open task manager and end all the processes which have “sysguard.exe” name. Look at all the processes one by one and end every process which has “sysguard.exe” which can be found on the right side of the process.
After ending all running processes, navigate to Windows Explorer and look for (and delete) the following files:
%UserProfile%–>Local Settings–>Application Data–>[random symbols]
%UserProfile%–>Local Settings–>Application Data–>[random symbols]–>[random symbols]sysguard.exe
Lastly, you’ll need to delete some registry entries. To do this, run the registry editor by going to “Start-Run” type “regedit” and click on OK. Delete the following files:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
If you are not comfortable doing these things, please DON’T! One mis-step and you could truly destroy your computer, to the point of losing all of your data and not be able to recover it.
