A storage device is used to replay transmitted video. Recordings are made to a DVDs, VCR Tapes, Flash Drives, SD cards, a DVR hard drive, or computer hard drives. A USB/DVR is a device connected to the camera or a receiver then plugged into the USB port on a computer to view the recorded video. Recording creates a video copy of an event. Recording can be continuous, set at a specific time or upon motion activation. VCR’s are no longer available at local retail stores although they are a part of many existing systems.
DVR Size
A security DVR permits 32 different cameras or more, recording to a DVR. The large amount of cameras are used for monitoring a business. The average amount of cameras with a home system is between four and eight. Although a 16 channel security DVR is not uncommon.
A security DVR contains a hard drive of 80GB to 1TB. When the memory is filled to capacity the drive will overwrite the existing video file with new video. Each DVR has its own unique functions and features. An 80GB DVR with indoor and outdoor cameras will provide a sufficient amount of home security in most situations.
Small cameras such as a video pen camera, mini camcorders, and hidden cameras record to a flash drive or SD card. Each of these recorders are plugged directly into the computer through USB port or a SD slot. The video copy is stored on the hard drive of the computer. From there it is viewed or transmitted over the internet.
Wireless IP
Some wireless IP cameras contain a CPU within the camera and a transmitter. The signal feeds either directly through the CAT 5 cable system with an Ethernet connection to the LAN router or it sends a signal to a WiFi router connected to the LAN router. A local or remote computer receives the signal from the router. The computers hard drive becomes the video storage device. A specified amount of space is allocated to the hard drive for recording. Wireless IP cameras have the capability to record to a SD card when the camera is motion activated. Wireless IP cameras are used as part of a CCTV network and copy is recorded to a security DVR.
Wireless
A USB/DVR recording device will make it possible for a wireless camera such as a teddy bear camera or any wireless camera to capture video. The video is copied to the computer hard drive then viewed on the computer. Internet transmission then becomes a possibility. Without a recording device the camera transmits a signal to a receiver that is viewed on a monitor. in order to replay the video, a recording device compatible with the cameras receiver is required to capture the video being recorded.
