Expanding Your Network – The 101 on Network Cards

Network Cards help a computer to physically connect to a LAN or Local Area Network. Ethernet cards are the most common form of network cards. These cards are occasionally known as Ethernet Cards (NICs) as well. Wireless and Token Ring cards are other types of network/ethernet cards. Most often Ethernet Ethernet Cards use RJ-45 jacks. These adapters sustain the Ethernet standard for high-speed network connections via cables.

It is because of the World Wide Web that computers are connected together, which assist us in the communication of information and data. If we say the internet is the spinal cord of this information and data, network cards can be said as vertebrae. With the help of networks cards one or various computers can connect to each other by way of Local Area Network (LAN) or Wide Area Network (WAN). Some networks are configured to allow one connection like LAN while other networks allow both the networks in their organization to co-connect. In a domestic scenario, networking consists of computers sharing the same internet, printer and file output. These files can be transmitted and received between two or more computers. Ethernet Cards often use PCI bus slot to do so.

In an effort for computers to communicate with each other, internet service providers frequently use (NIC) Network Interface Cards as their point of connection. This card could be found on most computers and is the gateway through which you can plug an Ethernet cable.

Ethernet cables help computers communication to high-speed internet modems/hubs. With the coming up of wireless network cards internet surfing has become unproblematic. Wireless Ethernet Cards communicate with a wireless router or network device and thus have eliminated the requirement of tethering Ethernet cables. With the help of wireless Ethernet Card users can use their laptops within a specific range. No doubt users have to take several security precautions in wireless networks, but these cards give flexibility to a user which is well worth the use. In laptops PCMCIA Network Interface Cards can be found. With the passage of time, network cards are becoming rarer because now-a-days many motherboards now include integrated network interfaces/cards.

Some of the manufacturers’ of Network Cards [http://www.comnauts.com/collections/network-card] include: Intel EXPI9404PTL, D-Link DGE-530T, Netgear GA311, Encore Electronics ENL832-TX-EN, Belkin F5D7000, Linksys EG1032, Gigabyte GN-WP01GS, IBM NetXtreme 1000 T+, TRENDnet TU-ET100C, SMC SMCWUSBS-N, Edimax EW-7717Un, Zyxel PL-100, Asus WL-100W etc.
