Video – The Basis Of Video Conferencing

Video is a Latin word that means I see. This technology includes, capturing, transmitting and replaying visual media. Video is actually the technique of turning a series of still images into moving images and the technology to do this varies through time. Video has come a long way from the black and white images that used to move much like a fast slide show just a couple of decades ago. Live video was made possible with the invention of the Vidicon, which was the heart of the video camera. This was first used in television cameras in the large television studios. Today, video cameras come in various shapes and sizes to match the work they are required to do. Small video cameras that fit into the palm of your hand are the most common and inexpensive cameras that produce very high quality images that can be stored on discs or video tape.

The video camera is actually a device that converts light into electrical pulses and stored on some media such as Digital video disks, Compact video disks, Magnetic tape or digital flash memory sticks. The replaying equipment is a system that converts these stored electrical impulses into light through a video screen such as an LCD or basic television set. These video displays have changed shape and quality over the years and have grown larger and cheaper through the years.

Video has been used in many fields for engineering and industry from the time of its inception. In fact, video has become the main tool of communication in recent times. If it were not for the invention of Video then sporting events such as soccer, boxing and baseball would not have traveled to countries across the globe. News channels are the greatest users of this technology. News companies have a presence in almost every country of the world through video technology. They use the Internet to transmit images through video technology to their news rooms and the news rooms in turn relay these images to your television sets that convert the video signals to images on the screen. All this takes a fraction of a second and you get to see news as it happens through high definition screens right in your living room.

The other uses for video are in surveillance were security is of importance. There are many inexpensive surveillance systems you could set up in your business establishments or your home if you need added security. Stores and supermarkets are using video surveillance to monitor shoplifter activities. Video technology has saved supermarkets around the world thousands of dollars in shop lifting losses. Video has been used in the entertainment industry very successfully. The newer multiplexes are dong away with the conventional film projectors and are installing video projectors in their halls. This enables them to transmit their films from one location to all their multiplexes across the country through network cables, which helps to save on transportation of the film rolls and cost of copying the film. Video games have also bridged many children and adults alike. Today there are online video games for every one. Video technology has taken the world by storm and there are many more storms to come so far as this technology is concerned.
